For over 13 years, Amira endured a marriage filled with physical, emotional, and psychological abuse while raising three children. Trapped in a cycle of fear, manipulation, humiliation, and violence, she struggled silently while trying to protect her children and hold her family together.
Despite repeated attempts to leave, Amira faced threats, intimidation, and emotional control that made escaping nearly impossible. Throughout her years of suffering, she continued to care for her children while facing declining health, financial hardship, and unsafe living conditions.
After finally freeing herself from the abusive marriage, Amira was left to raise her three children alone. However, safety did not mean stability. Her damaged family home had severe structural issues, including roof leaks, unsafe foundations, exposed spaces, and flooding during heavy rain, leaving the family vulnerable and living in difficult conditions.
Determined to provide a safer and brighter future for this resilient mother and her children, Moms Aid launched a fundraising campaign to rebuild a secure home on Amira’s property. The new home was designed to provide safety, comfort, and stability for the family, consisting of 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, and a living area, a space where they could begin rebuilding their lives with dignity and peace.
In addition to the hardships at home, Amira has faced ongoing health struggles, including medical complications that require treatment, while caring for children with serious health and emotional needs. Despite working and receiving single mother support, financial challenges made it difficult to meet even basic living expenses.
On April 28, 2024, a construction agreement was signed with Snow Builders to begin this journey toward rebuilding hope. This project was made possible through the kindness and generosity of compassionate supporters, including a significant contribution from Pullman Maldives Maamutaa Resort, whose donation played a major role in helping move the project forward. We are also deeply grateful to Samsung Maldives for generously providing a washing machine and household appliances to help the family settle into a more comfortable home environment.
Today, Amira’s journey stands as a powerful reminder of resilience, courage, and survival. More than a house, this project represents safety, dignity, healing, and the chance for a mother and her children to finally experience peace and stability. The house was completed and handed over to the family on 14th September 2024.
To everyone who supported this journey, thank you for helping create hope and a brighter future for this family.
